Streamline Studio is a very small software company dedicated to a dual mission:
- Un-sticking small-business and non-profit web sites from their pre-recession stasis. Before the bubble burst in 2008, there was budget money for maintaining web sites. Since then, many small organizations have muddled along what they had then. Now, you can keep your content fresh and adapt to things like people using iPhones to browse your site – all by using WordPress as your platform. We can help.
- Building custom, web-based productivity solutions for printing, publishing and creative organizations. We work with our clients to build systems that track projects, manage digital assets, help with scheduling and estimating – the nuts and bolts of workflow management.
Been There, Done That
I have a lot of first-hand experience with these processes, since I’ve lived it. No, you won’t find a cube farm with programmers and software engineers – nerds – here. At Streamline Studio, you’ll find a marketing guru who understands exactly what you’re going through.
So, how did I end up making web sites? After years in marketing – most of it in Silicon Valley, I grew pretty frustrated by the lack of decent, accessible tools to help me track my work and manage the myriad projects I juggled and the insane deadlines I faced. So I started building my own systems. My colleagues saw what we’d been up to, and wanted the same tools. This is how I got into building full-custom web applications. I did it in-house at a multi-national corporation for several years before I struck out on my own in 2002.
Web Apps You Can Use
All those years marinating in the Mac software industry paid off. I design systems that put usability first. (Hey, some of these web-based systems get used by artists and other creative people who don’t do well with systems designed by database programmers.) After all, what good is a complex software tool if no one can figure out how to use it? Anything I build for you will not be confusing, inscrutable, or frustrating to use. I just don’t think that way. Besides, I’m all about building long-term relationships with clients, and you won’t stick with me if I make you mad.
These days, I find myself helping small businesses and non-profits with their public web presence. It’s a different world than developing full-custom web applications, but it’s very rewarding. I’m helping businesses in my community, and their money stays here. I’m helping businesses modernize their web presence after years of letting it languish. I’m helping business owners get control of their web content for the first time ever. The tools are really good now – it’s a matter of putting them all together and handing you the keys.
Think 360 With Me
So, if you’ve read this far, you are probably pretty interested in building a custom web app. You might have a horror story about the system you’re currently using, or a custom software failure in your past. Unfortunately, failures and horror stories are all too common in this business. At Streamline Studio, we have worked very hard at building our own development process – which we call Think 360. Our process places emphasis on adaptability and embracing change rather than the infallibility of the Requirements Document.
Think 360 means looking all the way around a problem – sometimes over the horizon – to find solutions. Every company’s workflow is a little different – Think 360 means not getting locked into one-size-fits-all methods for solving problems.
